EKU's Department of Technology is pleased to announce that Dr. David Dean has been selected as their departmental distinguished alum for 2007.

Mr. Dean was honored during a presentation on Friday, April 6, 2007, at the annual College of Business and Technology Professional Skills Conference senior recognition luncheon.

The honor is reserved for special alumni who have distinguished themselves in their professions through excellence, dedication, and service.

Mr. Dean recently fulfilled the lifelong dream of owning his own construction business, WD Graves, Inc., with partners Dan and Laura Graves.  Mr. Dean has also received national recognition and was honored last year for his outstanding leadership in construction by being named one of the Top Forty Under 40 in “Building Design & Construction Magazine.”

After earning his degree in Construction Management at EKU, Mr. Dean immediately began his career with Gray Construction.  Starting as a field engineer in Lexington, he quickly rose through the ranks of the organization taking on more and more responsibility.  At the age of 32, he relocated to Birmingham, Alabama, to start and lead a new regional office for Gray Construction targeting the area’s growing automotive market.  During this time, the office landed significant projects for Nissan, Honda and Hyundai that generated over $100 million in revenue over just four years.

Mr. Dean continues to be an avid supporter of EKU’s Construction Management Program and recently served as the keynote speaker at the annual Construction Management Recognition Banquet – an event sponsored by many of the largest commercial contractors in the area.

Congratulations, Mr. Dean, on being selected as the 2007 Distinguished Alumnus representing the Department of Technology.

The college also honored distinguished seniors for the year as selected by their respective departments within the College of Business and Technology. Mr. Brian Richardson was selected as the TECH departmental distinguished senior. In addition, recipients of scholarships and awards for the 2006-07 academic year were recognized. Students were honored for outstanding achievement and more than 40 area employers were on hand to engage in networking activities with college graduating seniors.
