AET selects Nathan Churchill as 2011 distinguished alum

EKU's Department of Applied Engineering and Technology is pleased to announce that Mr. Nathan Churchill has been selected as their departmental distinguished alum for 2011.

Mr. Churchill was honored during a presentation on Friday, April 1, 2011, at the annual College of Business and Technology College to Careers senior recognition luncheon.

The honor is reserved for special alumni who have distinguished themselves in their professions through excellence, dedication, and service.

Mr. Churchill graduated in 1996 with a Bachelor of Science in Construction Management with a Minor in Business.  While at Eastern, he served as both Treasurer and President of the Student Contractors Association.

Today, Mr. Churchill is a partner with Churchill McGee – an award-winning general contractor focusing on urban infill and redevelopment throughout the Central Kentucky area. 

Mr. Churchill began his career as a project engineer for W.L. Hailey Co., in Nashville, Tennessee.  In just two years, he accepted a position as project manager and estimator for Township Builders in Little Rock, Arkansas.  For the next four years, he performed general contractor duties for multi-million dollar projects that included heavy highway, sewer and water treatment plant, state park runway and park renovation, and main street expansion and drainage improvements.

By 2003, Mr. Churchill was ready to partner in Churchill McGee. Using in-house manpower, the company manages all stages of design consultation and construction with the ability to self perform demolition, structural work, and rough/finished carpentry.  They specialize in commercial tenant fit-up and historical remodeling.  Meeting owner expectations through the use of tax credits, budget requirements and scheduling are a standard for Churchill McGee. 

Prior to founding the firm, the partners spent valuable time with major general contractors across the region implementing complex construction projects to ensure success.  Unique construction projects present special challenges and are a Churchill McGee specialty.  The company has a $4-5 million bonding capacity per project and has successfully completed such projects as the Bluegrass Airport Façade, the University of Kentucky Vocal Arts School, the Cigar Building Condominiums, First Presbyterian Church Apartments, and The Lofts at Gratz Park.

Their efforts have not gone unnoticed.  Among their awards are the Urban Innovation Award, the Outstanding Renovation Project for The Lofts at Gratz Park, the Best Renovation Project and Best Architectural Design for the Cigar Building Condominiums, and Outstanding Historical Renovation for First Presbyterian Church Apartments.

Mr. Churchill loves to volunteer his spare time – and Big Brothers Big Sisters is his pick.  Among his other interests are The Cathedral Domain Camps and Conference Center for The Diocese of Lexington.

Congratulations Mr. Churchill on being selected as the 2011 Distinguished Alumnus representing the Department of Technology.

The college also honored distinguished seniors for the year as selected by their respective departments within the College of Business and Technology. Mr. Charles Benjamin Hardesty, an industrial technology major from Frankfort, Ky., was selected as the AET departmental distinguished senior. In addition, recipients of scholarships and awards for the 2010-11 academic year were recognized. Students were honored for outstanding achievement and more than 40 area employers were on hand to engage in networking activities with college graduating seniors.
